Mushroom Carboxymethyl Chitosan
Mushroom Carboxymethyl Chitosan (CM-Chitosan) is a water-soluble derivative of chitosan produced by chemically modifying chitosan with carboxymethyl groups (-CH₂-COOH). When the chitosan source is obtained from mushroom-derived fungal biomass (mainly fungal cell walls rich in chitin), the material is often marketed as mushroom carboxymethyl chitosan.

Carboxymethyl Chitosan (N,O-CMCS) belongs to the plant-based category and is a water-soluble modified derivative of vegan chitosan. The base material extracted is chitin from the cell walls of edible fungi. The traditional carboxymethyl chitosan is over 90% derived from shrimp and crab shell waste; Mushroom-derived Carboxymethyl Chitosan is an animal-free, low-allergen alternative, and is also a core raw material for biomedicine, halal/saccharine-free formulas.

1.Cosmetics & Personal Care
Skin care essence / cream / mask: Mushroom-derived Carboxymethyl Chitosan mainly for moisturizing and repairing, soothing redness, and stabilizing the skin barrier; suitable for sensitive skin and post-medical treatment skincare products.
Shampoo and conditioner products: Shampoo for softness and anti-static, conditioner for film formation and water retention; toothpaste for antibacterial, prevention of gum bleeding, and oral freshening gel.
Efficacy combination: Combined with nicotinamide and retinol to reduce irritation and enhance the transdermal absorption of active ingredients.
2.Food Industry
Mushroom-derived Carboxymethyl Chitosan used in edible protective coatings for fruits and vegetables: 1% – 3% aqueous solution for spraying on strawberries, lychees, fresh-cut fruits, etc., to inhibit bacteria, block oxygen, and extend shelf life, allowing for direct consumption without residue.
Food additives: Mushroom-derived Carboxymethyl Chitosan as thickening and stabilizing agents, antioxidant and preservative agents; used in plant-based meat substitutes and plant-based cheese to enhance gel structure and water retention.
Health supplements: Gut probiotics, lead-excretion and liver-protecting dietary supplements, preferred raw materials for vegan formulations.
3.Agriculture and Environmental Protection
Pesticide slow-release additives: Leaf fertilizer, carrier for biological pesticides, adhering to the crop leaves to release the drug effect, reducing the amount of pesticides used.
Water treatment flocculants: Adsorbing heavy metals in industrial wastewater, decolorizing and flocculating in dyeing wastewater, biodegradable and without secondary pollution.
Soil improvement: Soil fixation and water retention, adsorbing heavy metals to restore contaminated farmland.
